Lot 3 Johnson U.S. M1817 Common Flintlock Musket

Johnson U.S. M1817 Common Flintlock Musket, #NVSN, .54 cal., 36" barrel, brown finish, walnut stock, bead front sight, and fixed "U"-notch rear sight. Barrel is marked "LS/P/US" on top. The touch hole appears original. Lockplate is marked "U.S./(Eagle)/R.& J.D. JOHNSON" with "1825/MIDDn CONN." behind the hammer. Condition is good overall, lockplate is white with some staining. Three barrel bands, trigger guard, and buttplate are dull brown, with light rust. Barrel is a plum colored with some areas of light rust. Stock is in very good condition, with light scattered handling marks, and circled cartouche on the left, with "JJE" stamped behind the trigger plate. Ramrod appears to be new made. Action works properly, but the flint hammer is loose on the tumbler. Bore has seven-groove rifling and is in good condition, with visible light surface rust. Est.: $1,000-$1,600. (Antique)
